Protons in Water as a Fermi Gas
نویسنده
چکیده
AbstractHydrogen-bond kinetics plays an important role in the establishment of the transport properties of water. In this paper we propose to consider protons in water as a Fermi gas. We use Fermi statistics to determine the Fermi energy, the averaged time between collisions of the protons, and the speed of sound in liquid water. This time is also used to interpret the response in frequency of the cytoplasm to an applied external electric field.

The knowledge of nuclear reaction rates is important for studying energy production and nucleosynthesis, especially in reactions including nuclei far from stability line, which are not accessible experimentally so far and thus it is necessary to be able to predict reaction cross sections in low excitation energies. Nuclear level density is one of the important key quantities in many nuclear phy...
متن کاملMechanism for spectral break in cosmic ray proton spectrum for emissions from supernova remnant W44
Recent observations of supernova remnant W44 by the Fermi spacecraft observatory support the idea that the bulk of galactic cosmic rays is accelerated in such remnants by a Fermi mechanism, also known as diffusive shock acceleration. However, the W44 expands into weakly ionized dense gas, and so a significant revision of the mechanism is required. Here, we provide the necessary modifications an...

The fermion sign problem is studied in the path integral formalism. The standard picture of Fermi liquids is first critically analyzed, pointing out some of its rather peculiar properties. The insightful work of Ceperley in constructing fermionic path integrals in terms of constrained world-lines is then reviewed. In this representation, the minus signs associated with Fermi-Dirac statistics a...
متن کاملMany Body Theory for Quartets, Trions, and Pairs in Low Density Multi-component Fermi-systems *
Cluster formation in strongly interacting Fermi-systems is one of the most interesting subjects in many body physics. So far, in condensed matter, only the study of formation of two body clusters has been studied in a wide perspective in the context of pairing, that is superfluidity and superconductivity (see e.g.1 in the context of cold atoms). However, in nuclear physics, due to the existence...
متن کاملFermi – liquid theory of superfluid asymmetric nuclear matter
Influence of asymmetry on superfluidity of nuclear matter with triplet–singlet pairing of nucleons (in spin and isospin spaces) is considered within the framework of a Fermi–liquid theory. Solutions of self–consistent equations for the critical temperature and the energy gap at T = 0 are obtained with the use of Skyrme effective nucleon interaction. It is shown, that if the chemical potentials ...
